Day 740 of 365 Again.

I've only known about this event for a week, but in many ways I've been preparing for it my entire life.

A week ago, Virgina sent me an email asking if I wanted to go to a huge pillow fight in the middle of Schenley Park. It was a strange request. Of course I want to go to a pillow fight! Who wouldn't?

It was quite crazy. Adults, kids, jammies (told you I've been preparingmy whole life) and pillows. A whole bunch of people I don't know, taking out their aggressions on one another in the time honored tradition of bonking each other over the head as hard as they can.

The kids are especially brutal. There was this one kid in a blue t-shirt. He was seven years old at BEST. And kinda short for his age. Seriously, like a couple feet shorter than me. How the hell me managed to get up high enough to hit me in the back of the head I will never know. At first, I thought it must have been someone else, but no, he did it over and over again. To me and to any other "big person" he could find. And he didn't let up. That little bastard was ruthless.

In closing, I gotta say, this shot would not be possible without an i-Shot JR remote. I took over 100 shots of the pillow fight, while I was in it. It is quite awesome (I'm in there, I swear... shouldn't be that hard to find really either).

Anyway, if you're feeling grumpy or have a crappy day at work, I highly recommend finding some 7 year old you don't know and beating the hell out of him with a pillow. It's quite cathartic.

Shortpacked!: The robodude's an entirely made-up Derybot.

Hey, look, it's the Female Autobots!

Yeah, we're back to one-shots. And this is just something I'm going to try, but I'm gonna make an attempt at doing Shortpacked! five days a week, M-F, regardless of whether it's a story or not. It's confusing to many for it to switch back and forth like that, and traffic is always better when it consistently updates, as well. Plus, I'll be able to cover a wider range of topics, and overall show off the universe of the strip a little more.

That means I should probably start building a buffer, which I have. I've made it a goal to do two Shortpacked! strips a day. We'll see how long my fingers hold up, but that's the plan. I got two done today, and I've planned the two I'm drawing tomorrow.

Today, book-shipping-wise, I dedicated to fixing mistakes. I re-sent books that had been returned to me, and also sent some to correct other problems. So if you contacted me in the past or vice versa about a problem, your book(s) went out today!

Last week I picked up Movie Armorhide. Why? Well, he was used in a text story preview (published in this month's Transformers Fan Club Magazine) as Shattered Glass (mirrorverse) Huffer. Again, I ask, why?

I don't really know. I'm mostly afraid that I'll miss the opportunity to buy him if I decide in the future that I like the universe after all. I was frankly surprised to find him on a peg one day! He's from a while back. Much easier to blow the $6 now than blow $10 later on eBay. Plus I like Huffer.

If it wasn't somebody cool like Huffer, I might not have bothered. Plus I like Movie Armorhide's toy. We'll see if this zeal applies to other dudes. There's bound to more of this toy-repurposing later on.

I do probably have to paint over his Sector Seven symbols, though...

Day 739 of 365 Again.

Back in business with the 365 Days podcast. Stephen and I filmed another episode tonight. It had been a couple weeks. The summer has been pretty busy for both of us, so there have just been several weeks where we couldn't get one done. In fact, i didn't even have my studio set up to do it.

Still it was a good show and should hopefully be up in a few days. We have something extra special planned for it for next week. Don't you people feel lucky?

Shortpacked!: *shudder*

I'm out to see a movie. I am ashamed to admit it is Clone Wars.

Edit: Man, what's wrong with people? That wasn't terrible at all. All weekend I've gotten email after email about how I just have to destroy it in a strip or something. I don't understand. Animation was awfully wooden, sure, but otherwise the movie was very enjoyable. Hmph.

Do you not realize how nice it is to be able to watch a Star Wars film without retarded dialogue?!

Getting a little tired of being asked in French to provide the steps to doing something, like getting a driver's license, and then being interrupted when I fail to either use those lovely words that mean "and then... and after that... and moreover..." Almost as much as I hate being interrupted because I've missed steps for what is a useless exercise.

Ten weeks can't end fast enough.

You might notice something weird in this picture.

After yesterday's debacle where I busted my face open, I really didn't feel very photogenic today. So instead of taking a regular self-portrait, I decided to be all sneaky and take an invisible self-portrait.

I assure you, I am not cheating. I am in the shot. Sharp-eyed viewers may be able to see an slight outline if you look closely enough.

Guys, I don't know what to talk about today. My shirt clearance sale ends tomorrow, but I promised I wouldn't talk about shirts. Some other cool stuff is coming up soon, but I can't reveal it yet. I've had a good last few days, so let's leave it at that. Hope you have too.

Hound x2 [Aug. 18th, 2008|10:59 pm]

shortpacked

Shortpacked!: No words, only music.

I am inordinately fond of Hound. I do not know why.

Most of my Transformer infatuations usually reach back to a specific story I read as a child that featured a certain character. I remember wishing for a Grapple or Beachcomber for years because of the illustrated storybook Insecticon Attack. (I no longer care for either.) My lust for Jazz, Wheeljack, and Frenzy began with Marvel Transformers #9. But I don't think Hound was really in anything that I ever paid attention to. Has he ever had a spotlight in anything? His personality's even not all that memorable. He's nice. He's friendly. That's about it.

Regardless, I ended up buying his Legends-class toy while in Illinois. Maggie was getting her hair trimmed and curled, which is apparently a 90-minute process, so I blew a whole five bucks on Hound to keep myself occupied as I sat in the mall. There are also Megatron and Jazz in his wave, but I chose Hound. I do not desire those other two.

He transforms simply enough. Hood becomes the chest, sides become the arms, back becomes the feet. That his feet become the seats is interesting, though, but my appreciation for this innovation battles my desire for Hound's feet to be giant-ass boxes, like his original toy. I love the box feet. It's another irrational preference of mine. Due to the size and placement of the front pair of wheels, Hound can't really move his arms around much. You can force them, as the shoulders are just balljoints, but it's certainly not a very user-friendly arrangement.

Hound's been getting a lot of love recently, or will continue to, at least. He just got a Robot Heroes figurine, as you can see in the image. And above and beyond the usual head/shoulder articulation these guys have, he also has waist articulation. Sweet. And early next year, you can buy him in Deluxe-class form along with a new Ravage.

I guess it helps Hound's case that he's one of the very few first-year Autobots that does not transform into a sports car. So, of course, you're going to want non-sports car guys like him and Mirage to add little breaks between the otherwise unending stream of 25th Anniversary Autobot sportscars. Works for me! I get more Hound.

Day 737 of 365 Again.

Ouch!

You know, when I started this project, I figured sooner or later I was going to get busted open and that would be my picture for the day. I was sure that it would happen sooner or later in a wrestling ring.

It never occurred to me that it would take 737 days and it would be while playing tennis.

My mother and Steph are always telling me that wrestling is too dangerous and I could get hurt. Well, there you go. At least I'm trained to be a wrestler, on the tennis court I clearly have no idea what I'm doing.

I wish I had the foresight to grab my iphone and snap a picture while there was still blood all over my face. But I didn't. I waited til I had wiped it down and was on the way to the hospital (where they superglued it shut). Oh well. Maybe next time.

Got a machinehead better than the rest. And I walk from my machine... [Aug. 18th, 2008|02:53 pm]

jin_saotome
Ok, so the lyrics to the song have absolutely nothing to do with the custom but I needed something catchy for the title. This week we have a four custom update!!

First is my original character Machine Head. His accessory piece is almost finished and it'll make more sense when it's done. Fans have emailed me over and over to do original characters so we'll see what I can come up with! Brick Ninja is my comedy line but this one, or whatever original stuff I make, will be on the serious side.

We also have a 25th Anniv Overkill GI Joe who's been given an updated look. HIS HEAD COMES OFF! I bet it could crawl around using the wires too, maybe latch on to some soldier and 'plug in' controlling him until Overkill finds a new body. There's also two new Halo customs, the Grifball Spartan Olympic Pro and a Corrupt Spartan. I was going to do another team set again but decided to do that next month. This month I'll make unique characters so you don't have to bid on a pair of figures. And yes, the Flood Infected Brute is in the works still.

Speaking of Brick Ninja, keep an eye out next week! I will be auctioning off ALL of the series 1 figures I've created. Yep, the whole original cast, even the BAF Pababooboo. I know some people want the whole set while others just want singles like Robo-Killer. I'll be putting them in seperate auctions with free combined shipping, so if you win the two or three you want (or all of them!) they won't cost you any extra shipping.

Now for this week's pics!

In other news my first step into the Designer Urban Vinyl is coming up! I was asked by Dynomight NYC if I'd like to participate in a custom toy show in New York. The Bumrush Custom show will take place on Saturday September 6th, 2008 at The Showroom NYC (The Showroom NYC - Toy Tokyo 117 2nd Avenue 2nd Floor NYC, NY). It will run for one night only from 7PM to 11pm.

My custom piece (named Cruderush) will be featured among many others and I believe you'll be able to bid/purchase the custom Rush figures there. I can't wait, I've never had anything of mine displayed at a show before... So thanks Dynomight NYC for giving me a chance to participate! I'm not sure if I can show pics of my custom or if I have to wait for the show, I'll find out.

Construction Worker, Will It Ever Be Done [Aug. 18th, 2008|07:25 am]

So yesterday I got through the morning making some comics, then auditors from the head office showed up in our department and I couldn't be all making comics when they were around! So no comic day for yesterday. Instead here is an ironically related video.

Say, have you guys seen This project by Phil [info]heroprotagonist and Natasha [info]normallife? It is explained on their livejournals there, but I think it is pretty awesome! It's good to see such a super talented dude and lady making cool things.

ps, once my friend Lindsay played this song for some construction dudes and they were all, 'Are you making fun of us', I don't know why.

So i finally did it...

I ordered my 2008/2009 Chelsea T-Shirt from the Chelsea Megastore...

£61.44 which includes the shirt being personalised with the name "BRUTICUS" on the back, "69" as my player number and the Barclays Premier League badge on the arm...

It's a lot of money for a T-Shirt but #1 it's Chelsea and i've previously explained my relationship with Chelsea and #2 i don't spend a great deal on clothes, i don't do designer labels so spending a lot of money on an item of clothing every so often doesn't hurt...

Shortpacked!@TNI: I just realized now I could have done a Raiders ref. I am a loser.
Shortpacked!: This strip says "screw you!" to conventional reading order.

No, seriously, I mean it. A single case of Wave 3 Indiana Jones being carted slowly through an entire warehouse full of boxes of Waves 1 and 2? It's so obvious. So simple in its beauty. Jesus, me. What the hell is wrong with you?

Here's more pictures from Steve and Vanessa's wedding! You may not know the guy, but I still thought there might be some images of interest.

That's not any ninja. That's Rich Dombeck, the real-life inspiration for Ninja Rick. That's right, this is a genuine Shortpacked! celebrity. It's this guy's face sketched in your Shortpacked! books if you asked for him.

As I mentioned the other day, this was a costume wedding. Show up as something or get kicked out! This image offers a quick look at the range of stuff that was there.

Steve, the groom, is the Han Solo fellow on the left. And, hey, look, his Best Man and their cronies! Just barely peeking into the frame is an elaborate and amazingly geeky Captain Pike costume. Yeah, that box-shaped thing. You may know the specific reference. In the extreme foreground is the back of the father of the groom, Mr. Richardson. He went as Indiana Jones.

And it's the groom and me! Steve spent all day posing for pictures like this. That poor guy. Well, okay, he brought this on himself.

And the special people we're there to see! Vanessa is, of course, Princess Leia in her Handing-Out-Medals-To-Everyone-But-Chewie gown. Her father came as Darth Vader. Yikes. Accurate and sends a message!

(The message is that he will choke you.)

Day 736 of 365 Again.

This is how we relax. It was a long day. Got up early and started doing work around the house. Did some quick shopping. Returned the keg from the party. Mowed the lawn. Cleaned the pool.

Shannon and Jen stopped by with their kids. If I were smart I would have taken a picture then. I am not smart.

Did some more cleaning, and finally we decided to relax. It was a nice day, so Steph decided she wanted to sit outside and do some work. I had photos to edit, so I decided to join her. As it got darker I decided it'd be nice to build a fire for us to relax next to, so I put some wood in our nifty little outdoor fireplace thingee. Yep, this is the life.
